    Astra is one of the most popular WordPress themes. It is an excellent choice for creating ‘normal’ websites. A little less for a WooCommerce store (then we prefer the Kadence, Greenshift or Blocksy theme). Astra offers a lot of ready-made designs designed websites that you can take as a starting point to build your own website. Astra is compatible with Gutenberg, Elementor, Spectra and Beaverbuilder. In addition, it also works well with Learndash together. Speed: Astra is not the fastest, but is certainly one of the faster themes.

    Voordelen Pro versie

    The Pro version offers: more flexible site layout, WooCommerce Integration, Sticky Header, Page Headers, more color and typography options, Spacing Control, Scroll to Top, a better Learndash experience and much more. The prices are not too bad. A license for 1 site is 59, or 79,-including the Elementor Add-on and the Spectra Pro Builder. For 10 websites it is 79 and 159 per year respectively. In addition, they also offer a 1000 websites license and lifetime licenses.

    Conclusie

    Astra is not my favorite, but is a good theme. If it meets the wishes of a company or organization, for example, offers an option in combination with Learndash that other themes do not have, Astra is an excellent choice.

    Divi builder
    Divi. It was the Builder who made it possible for me to create a website the way I wanted, in 2014. Otherwise I would probably not have switched from Dreamweaver to WordPress at that time. Divi has been no longer a serious option for a few years. Old -fashioned, painfully slow, buggy and works with almost nothing. The old Divi only works well with Divi. All my Divi websites were converted years ago, first to elementor, later to Kadence (Gutenberg). But … the new divi. I have already made a test several times with the upcoming Divi 5.0 version. Divi 5 is the next evolution of Divi’s visual builder, rebuilt from the ground, incredibly fast, with completely renewed onion. Indeed, it is no longer similar to the old Divi. I tend to give the upcoming version the status ‘serious Builder’ again. There is still something missing, such as CSS-Grid, column order on mobile, vertical lines, and not all options are available yet at the tablet and mobile view. But what I worked with was an Alpha version. Nothing beta yet, and it was already promising.

    Divi is only available as a paid version. You also have two choices: Divi or Divi Pro. The latter has considerably more cloud storage, add-ons credit and divi-ai. Keep in mind that you also pay an amount per year for the extra cloud services at the Lifetime Pro version.

    Conclusie

    I am still a bit careful, but I think the upcoming version 5 is a very serious builder. If this new version is finally off, we still have to test how this version deals with Gutenberg blocks and other plug-ins such as geodirectory and Learndash, but the prospects are good. Divi sometimes seems to be less, but it works very easily, making templates works perfectly, and it is one of the few builders where almost everything is possible in terms of WooCommerce. In addition, a huge range of (good) Divi add-ons is available.

    Een block thema dat ideaal is voor een WooCommerce online winkel, of een website die ook een Woo winkel heeft op dezelfde website. Aanrader.

    Webmasters erkennen het belang van het opnemen van content die een wereldwijd publiek aanspreekt en die de bezoeker in hun moedertaal aanspreekt. Slechts 27% van de internetgebruikers beheerst Engels. Bovendien bleek uit een onderzoek van Common Sense Advisory dat maar liefst 85% van de online shoppers alleen zou kopen van websites die de producten in hun eigen taal bespreken, ook als ze bijvoorbeeld Engels wel beheersen. Je kunt ook met code of door middel van een class aangeven dat bepaalde teksten of blokken niet vertaald mogen worden. LET OP: deze plug-in is nu eigendom van GTranslate. De functionaliteit is identiek, maar de widget die de talen toont is heel verschillend. Bij de gratis (ongecorrigeerde) versie, heb ik voorkeur voor deze (Google Language Translator) omdat dat meteen duidelijk is dat de site een live vertaling gebruikt, i.p.v. tevoren geschreven teksten.

    Voordelen Pro versie

    De pro versie (dan val je onder GTranslate) biedt nog betere automatische vertalingen aan, zorgt dat je vertalingen ook goed scoren met SEO en laat je de automatische vertalingen ook bewerken! Als je het belangrijk vindt dat zoekmachines je ook in de andere talen goed vinden, is de pro versie een vereiste. Het goedkoopste plan is € 95,- per jaar en geeft je één extra taal, bijvoorbeeld Nederlands en Engels.

    Conclusie

    Google Language Translator is een van de weinige plug-ins die je site multi-language maken, zonder een woord te hoeven vertalen. De meeste multi-language plug-ins vereisen dat je voor elke taal een aparte tekst ingeeft. Google Language Translator vertaalt zelf, op het moment dat de bezoeker de pagina opent en de taal kiest. Het nadeel is dat de vertaling kwalitatief soms wat minder is, al wordt dat elk jaar beter. Voordeel is dat het ‘live’ gebeurt, en dat je gewoon met één klik een taal kunt toevoegen.

    Voordelen Pro versie

    Het thema biedt weliswaar professionele mogelijkheden, maar is geheel gratis.

    Conclusie

    Als je een FSE thema zoekt, is dit een absolute aanrader. Ik heb er tientallen getest, en Greenshift steekt er met kop en schouder bovenuit. Onze website wpnews.nl is geheel gebaseerd op het Greenshift FSE thema.

    Voordelen Pro versie

    Meerdere menu’s, meer kant-en-klare voorbeelden, maken van Elements (eigen templates) en meer instellingen voor bijvoorbeeld WooCommerce. De Pro versie wordt geleverd inclusief Kadence blocks.

    Conclusie

    Als je op zoek bent naar een thema dat een schone interface biedt, snelheid biedt en alle klassieke opties heeft die je nodig hebt, is Kadence een heel goede keuze. Ja, de betaalde versie is iets duurder dan sommige andere echt goedkope thema’s, maar de kwaliteit van het thema is uitstekend. LET OP: elke Kadence licentie is voor één website.

    LanguageTool taal correctie
    Tekst correcties terwijl je een WordPress pagina of post schrijft of bewerkt. LanguageTool ontdekt vanzelf in welke taal je werkt en geeft suggesties. De tekst wordt niet door de tool opgeslagen; je privacy wordt gerespecteerd. LanguageTool bestaat als: extensie voor je browser, bepaalde applicaties zoals Mail, word, Google docs, Gmail en nog veel meer. Daarnaast hebben ze ook een app voor je computer. Ik zelf maak dagelijks gebruik van de Chrome extensie. LanguageTool werkt fijn en kent zowel een ‘negeer’ functie, als een ‘toevoegen aan woordenboek’ functie. Zeker als je weet dat Google en Bing fouten in teksten niet op prijs stellen (dus slecht voor je SEO) is dit een handige en belangrijke tool.

    Voordelen Pro versie

    Naast de gratis versie is er ook een betaalde versie. Deze kent meer functies, zoals: Geavanceerde grammatica-, controle van interpunctie- en schrijfstijl. Tot wel 150.000 tekens per tekstveld, onbeperkte AI-gegenereerd herschrijven van zinnen, stijlgids, extensie voor Microsoft Word. LanguageTool kent meerdere premium plannen, voor een individu, teams, etc.

    Conclusie

    Als je een eenvoudige ‘corrector’ zoekt die niet stoort, eenvoudig uitgezet kan worden en zijn werk goed doet, raden we LanguageTool echt met liefde aan. De gratis versie werkt heel goed, maar als goede tekst je echt lief is en je het belangrijk vindt dat je taalgebruik echt klopt, ook qua grammatica, raden we de premiumversie aan.
